Srivan

In Vedic traditions there are three types of forests:

Mahavan - the great historic jungles that must be preserved and protected for biodiversity

Tapovan - sacred groves, that surrounded ashrams and temples (these were to be tended by the priesthood to promote biodiversity

Srivan - forests of prosperity, grown and cultivated to support human activity and needs, supplying medicine, food, spices, timber and other plant based products.

Studio Saar’s Srivan at the inaugural Design Mumbai is our re-interpretation of a forest of wealth. This re-usable structure is made with Jodhpur stone, steel and cotton and will have a life beyond the exhibition. Hundreds of artisans and craftsmen came together to make this offering, in the week after Diwali, as a place for visitors to network, relax, have a drink, or socialise. We hope to foster a spirit of custodianship, through Srivan, by providing tranquility and a gentle immersion in nature.
